In what could be called a major improvement, Google has now made it easier for users to find their personal information online. Users will now be able to find and remove their data, especially contact information, from Google search results.
Indeed, Google will now start sending notifications whenever a user’s contact information, such as their phone number, address or email address, appears on the search page. Based on the notification, users will be able to ask the search giant to remove that particular information.
This new feature is part of the Results About You feature that was introduced last year. Users can now access “results about you” on smartphones and on the web. The latest feature update allows users to get their information without having to search for it themselves.
After users enter their personal information on the dashboard, it automatically retrieves websites with the right information. It also allows users to check each website and submit a request to remove it.
Google says it will roll out a dashboard in the coming days that will let users know if web results with their contact details will show up in search results. While users can quickly request that results be removed, Google will also notify them when new web results containing their information appear in search.
Users can access this tool in the Google app by tapping their Google Account picture and selecting “Results about you” or by visiting goo.gle/resultsaboutyou. Currently, the tool is only available in English in the US, however, Google is working to bring it to more places and in more languages.
