WhatsApp two-step verification is an optional feature which adds more security to your account. Once you enable the two-step verification, any attempt to verify your phone number on WhatsApp must be accompanied by the six-digit PIN that you created using this feature. Two-step verification is recommended on most of the social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook and Whatsapp.

You can find the two-step verification in your account settings. Go to two-step verification and touch the enable button.

Here is a complete step by step guide which you can follow to enable two-step verification on WhatsApp.

Step 1: Open WhatsApp on your device.

Step 2: On the home page click on Menu (three dots).

Step 3: From the drop-down option tap on Settings.

Step 4: On the new page select Account.

Step 5: Next tap on Two-step verification.

Step 6: On the two-step verification page tap Enable.

Step 7: On the next screen, enter a six-digit passcode.

Step 8: To confirm it, re-enter the six-digit passcode on the next page.

Step 9: Optionally, you can add your email address on the next screen and confirm it.

Step 10: At last tap on Done.

Your two-step verification has been enabled. Adding an email address on two-step verification will allow WhatsApp to send you a link via email to disable two-step verification in case you ever forget your six-digit PIN, and also to help safeguard your account.

WhatsApp will help you remember your PIN, it will periodically ask you to enter your PIN. There is no option to disable this without disabling the two-step verification feature. In case, if you ever receive an email to disable two-step verification, but didn’t request this, don’t click on the link. This may be a tap, someone could be attempting to verify your phone number on WhatsApp.

WhatsApp explains that in case you forget your passcode and did not provide an email to disable two-step verification then your number will be permitted to reverify on WhatsApp without your passcode only after 7 days but you will lose all pending messages upon reverifying.
