You can edit a message you sent in a chat on Facebook for up to 15 minutes after you send it. After 15 minutes have passed, you can still unsend the message.

Editing is not currently available for end-to-end encrypted messages on facebook.com. To edit an end-to-end encrypted message, use the Facebook or Messenger mobile app.

  1. Hover over the message you want to edit.
  2. Click .
  3. Click Edit.
  4. Update your message in the text box, then click  .
  5. Your edited message will replace your original message in the chat.

Note:

  • It is possible others in the chat may have already read your original message in the chat or in a notification. Unread notifications are replaced with your edited message.
  • If somebody reports an edited message, the edit history will be shown in the report.
  • Each message you send can be edited up to 5 times.
