And finally, the membership certificate of the Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria (CPN) arrives

CPN was established by Decree No. 49 of 1993 by the Federal Government of Nigeria to regulate Information Technology practices. Being a regulatory authority, its functions primarily centre around regulating IT Practice.

CPN is for Information Technology Professionals what COREN is for Engineers, and what ICAN or ANAN is for Accountants.

Being a training institution, the CPN trains and issues professional certificates that are comparable to standard academic qualifications in Nigeria.

CPN is the ONLY body in Nigeria authorised by the Nigerian Government to license and issue Chartered Information Technology Practitioner (CITP) to IT Professionals.

To become a Chartered Information Technology Practitioner (CITP), you must have a certain formal IT or Computing qualification admissible by CPN and may be subjected to other forms of assessment, including written exams.

If you have no formal IT qualification, you can go through the Computer Professional Examination (CPE) route to become a CITP and a professional member. In that case, you have the option of CPE that has been aligned to compare to the conventional academic qualifications as follows:

CPN Foundation Certificate | SSCE
CPN CPE I Certificate | OND
CPN CPE II Certificate | HND or BSc
CPN CPE III Certificate | Master’s degree

Please note, that the above professional qualifications when assessed by international credentials and qualifications assessment services agencies using international qualification framework standards will be recognised and accepted globally.

It is also interesting to know that the Computer Professional Registration Council of Nigeria (CPN) is an educational institution domiciled under the Federal Ministry of Education.
