Cybersecurity: Expert opinion on awareness education

By: Destiny Young

No matter the level of security controls implemented by organizations to protect their IT systems and Digital assets, if employees are not given adequate cybersecurity awareness training, such organizations are still vulnerable to a cyberattack.

Human error poses the greatest threat to organisational security posture. Fundamental to an effective cybersecurity programme is cybersecurity education.

As organisations continue to leverage the internet and digital technology to accelerate business operations, the global interconnection of things and people exposes the players to the rising threat landscape as attackers become more sophisticated., the bad actors are now leveraging AI to launch an attack.

Businesses must therefore develop a comprehensive cybersecurity programme backed by budgetary provisions to safeguard their critical IT systems and Digital infrastructure.

Employees must be given commensurate cyber security awareness to enable their quicker understanding and identification of potential threats.

The cost of managing attack incidents far outweighs the cost of investing in cybersecurity, plus the attendant bad business reputation it causes organizations.

Penny wise, pound foolish!
